Pictures From Our Ministry Fair

Almost 200 women attended our Women's Ministry Fair this last Saturday. We had a great time meeting new women and finding out about Women's Ministries 2008-2009.

We did something new and exciting this year - ministry workshops! Karen Darras and Pam Finn led a workshop entitled Serving Others With A Heart Of Compassion.

Pictured here are Amber Bower who graciously ran our sound for us, and Tiffany Holcomb and Shelley Smith who taught our workshop on The Great Adventure of Bible Study. Much thanks also to Shelley (our Women's Ministries Assistant) who did an incredible job of graphic design and production of our new Women's Ministries Calendar 2008-2009 and all the other flyers for our various ministries.

Ruthie Thune and Nancy Walker led a workshop on leadership entitled

Leading Others Into A Deeper Walk With God.

Melba Poure and Daisy Catchings led a workshop entitled

How To Share Your Story With Others.

Here's Daisy Catchings, Founder of Umbrella Ministries and

Catherine Martin, Director of our Women's Ministries.

SCC Women's Ministry Fair September 20!

I want to invite you to our SCC Women's Ministry Fair on September 20 at Southwest Community Church, Room 202, from 8:30 am to 12 noon. Join other women for a morning of worship, fellowship, food, fun, inspiration and encouragement. Find out all about Women's Ministries, Bible studies, our annual Women's Luncheon and Retreat, Mom2Mom, Golf Fellowship, Friendship Link, and more. And we are offering something new this year. Choose from four different workshops to learn more about the Bible, sharing your story with others, leadership, and serving in Women's Ministries. Each of our ministries will have a table with more information for 2008-2009, how to join, and how to serve. There is no cost for this great morning together with other women. See you soon on September 20!

God's Instrument

Judy Hyde just wrote this most amazing poem in response to "The Touch Of The Master's Hand" shown at our women's retreat a few weeks ago. Let us always remember we are "His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).

God has made you an instrument

to be His and HIs alone...

The Master has carved, polished and

made the strings in tune,

but the instrument is not your own.

God asks you to practice everyday a melody,

which is to glorify Him...

The melody is to be disciplined, obedient,

honoring and free from sin.

But when the sin is part of your life

and the melody is out of tune...

The instrument becomes scarred and scratched,

some would say it was in ruins.

Don't underestimate the Master's touch,

for God always has a plan...

He will gracefully pick up the instrument

with His loving hand.

The strings are weak and the instrument is worn,

but the Master has a goal...

He looks beyond the scratches and the scars,

He looks at the melody of the soul.

God can restore the instrument

to make it look like new...

The Master can change a life

and the melody to play in tune.

Set My Heart On Fire!

Our women's revival and spiritual growth 30 day campaign has begun. We are currently on Week Two of Set My Heart On Fire. What an incredible journey we've had so far learning all about what it means to walk and live in the power of the Holy Spirit. In Week 1 of Set My Heart On Fire we read all about God's plan for us - the abundant life made possible through the indwelling Holy Spirit. I shared last week about the two men on the road to Emmaus. We took some time to talk about what really happened as those two men had their hearts set on fire for the Lord. Oh what an impact they had as they raced all the way back to Jerusalem. All it takes are dry and broken hearts, the spark of the Word of God, AND the good, strong wind of the Holy Spirit to set a heart on fire. May the Lord set all of our hearts on fire!

Welcome to the new SCC Women Blog!

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the new SCC Women Blog. I have long wanted to create a blog for our women here at Southwest Community Church. This will be an opportunity to connect and share. I thought it would be especially appropriate as we prepare to embark on the new 30-day journey, Set My Heart On Fire. So keep checking back to see what's going on in Women's Ministries.
